Mahé & Victoria
Mahé, with an area of 150 sq.km., is the largest island in Seychelles. Morne Seychellois, with a peak rising to 905 metres, also makes it the highest. There are many places in Mahé worth exploring. Visitors can linger at the Craft Village, visit the Creole Institute, walk along paths cutting through lush vegetation, discover the spectacular fauna and of course, unwind on the many white sandy beaches all along the coasts of Mahé. |
Situated on the northeastern part of Mahé is Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, reputed to be the smallest capital in the world. Its commercial, fishing and inter-island ports are well-known and in the centre of Victoria is its most famous landmark – the clock tower, installed in 1903 as an exact replica of the one in Vauxhall Bridge Road in the centre of London. Victoria is the administrative and commercial hub of the Seychelles with most of the banks, offices, shops, cafés, museums, the national library and the national assembly etc. situated there.
